• SKI TOUR WEEK IN PÖYRISJÄRVI WILDERNESS ARE

Pulka expedition on skis in a remote wilderness area

    broken image

A 4-night Arctic pulka & ski expedition, where you pull all your equipment in a pulka, is an experience you remember forever! It’s also well possible that the rugged yet peaceful nature will attract one back time after time. It’s easy to get addicted to this, beware...

The Pöyrisjärvi WIlderness Area, located at the Northernmost part of Finland offers us a true wilderness to be explored. We get to spend five days in these miraculous Arctic surroundings, these wide open fjell highlands, some of the most beautiful and remote areas of the whole Lapland. We may also try our luck on some of the greatest ice fishing waters of Lapland. Despite the remote location, the terrain is relatively easy, meaning no major skiing experience is needed. A good (but not extreme) physical condition is a must, though. A great challenge for first-timers as well as a little more experienced Arctic adventurers.

The expedition itself takes 4 nights in tents and five days on skis, but to get properly prepared for what’s to come, we arrive at the corner of the area a day before to get familiar with all the equipment, get rested in a traditional log cabin and to be ready to take off early in the first morning.

This guided week includes all the special equipment and food needed. You need to bring clothing for skiing in winter conditions and warm layers for staying at the camp sites. Nights will be spent in shared tents. The days may be long and weather conditions may vary from -35 to +10 degrees, from sunny days without wind to proper snowstorms. Still, the tour also suits first timers, but skiing ability and good general health is a requirement. The guide leads the expedition with a nice and easy tempo, taking plenty of breaks and making sure nobody falls behind.
